MATHS/ALGORITHMICS for BIOLOGY POSTDOC POSITION

Location: Inria at University of Lyon 1, France

A postdoctoral position is available for one year with a possible one-year extension in the Inria-CNRS-UCBL BAMBOO-BAOBAB Team led by Marie-France Sagot in the framework of an ERC project, SISYPHE, funded by the European Research Council on the mathematical and algorithmic exploration of symbiosis in biology.

We are seeking highly qualified and motivated applicants in mathematics (statistics, probability, combinatorics, graph theory) and/or algorithmics. A strong interest for biological problems (modelling, problem solving, data analysis) is essential. Candidates with a PhD in computational biology, or that has some strong computational biology flavour are particularly welcome.

The applicants should have an open mind, enjoy working in close interaction with a highly pluridisciplinary team and daily interacting with students and researchers from different disciplines (the team itself and its various long-term international collaborators, in particular members of an Inria International Partnership with Italy and the Netherlands, members of a CNRS International Laboratory with Brazil, as well as researchers from various other academic institutions in that country).

The postdoctoral fellow will develop formal models and algorithms to analyse both publicly available and newly produced data. The specific project will be developed together with the candidate.

The group is international with english as a common language. It is located in Lyon, a beautiful city resting at the kissing point of the Rhône and Saône rivers. It is reputed in particular for its food, wine, and culture.

For more information on the group and on the SISYPHE project, please write to us at: Marie-France.Sagot @ inria.fr. You may also consult the web page of the team: http://team.inria.fr/bamboo/. Unusual CVs are welcome.

POSTDOC POSITION in COMPUTATIONAL BIOLOGY

Location: Inria at University of Lyon 1, France

A postdoctoral position is available for one year with a possible one-year extension in the Inria-CNRS-UCBL BAMBOO-BAOBAB Team in the framework of an ERC AdG project, SISYPHE, funded by the European Research Council on the bioinformatics of symbiosis. A summary of this project is given here. The BAMBOO-BAOBAB Team is affiliated both to the Laboratoire de Biométrie et Biologie Évolutive of the University Lyon 1 and CNRS (UMR 5558), and to the Inria Rhône-Alpes. It is therefore an ideal place for people interested in interdisciplinary research.

We are seeking highly qualified and motivated applicants, either biologists with a solid training in computer science and/or statistics (ability to use and criticise known methods and apply them to novel biological questions) or computer scientists with a very strong interest in biology (ability to understand the biological questions addressed and develop new computational methods that truly help answering the original question). Interdisciplinary profiles are highly encouraged. Experience with any of the following topics is a plus: symbiosis, NGS, metabolic networks, regulatory networks, non model organisms, sequence and graph algorithms, evolutionary biology, bacterial communities…

The successful candidate should enjoy interacting with students and researchers from different disciplines working within a team (the group and its various long-term international collaborators, in particular members of an INRIA International Partnership with Italy and the Netherlands and of an International Laboratory with Brazil, as well as researchers from various academic institutions in that country).

The postdoctoral fellow will participate in the development and/or application of novel methods for the bioinformatics analysis of symbiosis. This area of research is very new and a wealth of new questions have already been raised by the team. The specific project will be established together with the candidate depending on taste and abilities.

The group is international with english as a common language. It is located in Lyon, a beautiful city at the kissing point of the Rhône and Saône rivers. It is reputed in particular for its food, wine, and culture.

For more information on the group and on the SISYPHE project, please write to us at: Vincent.Lacroix @ univ-lyon1.fr and Marie-France.Sagot @ inria.fr. You may also consult the web page of the team: http://team.inria.fr/bamboo/. Unusual CVs are welcome.
