MODFRAC

MODFRAC a is a C/POSIX-threads/OpenMP software for the mesh generation of Discrete Fracture Networks (DFN).
The Discrete Fracture Network (DFN) approach is a common model of fractured rocks. Fractures are modeled as ellipses or polygons whose properties (orientation, size, position, transmissivity) are governed by statistical laws derived from field observations. In numerical simulations, the three-dimensional domain Ω is typically a parallelepiped containing several thousand or even more than a million fractures.

Features:

  • Calculation of the intersections of the fractures with each other and with the faces of the cube
  • Addition of geometric and topological information
  • Generation of a user-controlled quality surface mesh suitable for volume mesh generation.

Dependencies

  • None, standalone software.

Mesh – 1397 fractures

Section of a surface mesh containing a well.

Mesh – 1,176,566 fractures

Section of the corresponding solid mesh containing a well. Volume mesh done with GHS3D
