M2 internship topic

Topic: optimal decision for prefetching under uncertainty Supervisors: Alain Jean-Marie, Sara Alouf, Inria NEO project-team, Sophia Antipolis Place: Sophia-Antipolis. Résumé: Prefetching is a basic technique used to reduce the latency of diverse computer services. Its principle is to bring proactively information at the “closest” of where it might be used, with the risk that it might never been used at all. Deciding what to prefetch amounts to make a compromise between latency and the waste of resources (network bandwidth, storage, energy) if contents is mistakenly prefetched. Modeling the problem in case of web/video/gaming navigation, is done by identifying a graph of “documents” connected by links representing the possible chaining. A surfer, either random or strategic, browses this graph. The prefetching…

NIM Talk

The next NEO Internal Meeting will take place on Wednesday 2 October, 14h30. Prof. Vladimir Gaitsgory will make a presentation about: Linear Programming Approach to Long Run Average Optimal Control: The Non-Ergodic Case An abstract of this talk and a short bio are below. ___________________ Abstract: We will discuss properties of the infinite dimensional linear programming problem, which along with its dual allow one to characterize the optimal value of the deterministic long-run average optimal control problem. The novelty of the consideration is that it is focused on the general case, when this optimal value may depend on initial conditions of the system. The talk is based on results obtained in collaboration with V. Borkar and I. Shvartsman. Bio: Vladimir…

Thesis defense

The PhD thesis defense of Dimitra Politaki which will take place on Tuesday July 16th, 2019 at 2pm in the Euler Violet room, Inria Sophia Antipolis. Title: “On Modeling Green Data Center Clusters” Jury members: Reviewers: Georges Da Costa, IRIT, France Matteo Sereno, University of Turin, Italie Examinators: Vincenso Mascunzo, IMDEA, Espagne Michel Riveill, Université de Côte d’Azur, France Advisor: Sara Alouf, Inria, France Guest: Fabien Hermenier, Nutanix Abstract: Data center clusters energy consumption is rapidly increasing making them the fastest-growing consumers of electricity worldwide. Renewable electricity sources and especially solar energy as a clean and abundant energy can be used, in many locations, to cover their electricity needs and make them “green” namely fed by photovoltaics. This potential can…
