  • Pressure-volume relation in the left ventricle of the heart using a coupled electro-mechanical model:

The study of electro-mechanical behaviour of the heart is a benchmark in the prevention of heart diseases and cardiovascular diseases in general. In this work a simple coupled mathematical model of excitation-contraction in the cardiac muscle was analised. A function based on empirical laws was proposed in order to compute the pressure linked to the calculus of ventricular volumes. The left ventricular volume at each time step was calculated  as well as a numerical pressure was applyed as load in the given code of the electro-mechanical problem. Some types of infarct were put in comparison with the normal heart pressure-volume loop through three-dimensional visualizations and several numerical exemples.
