MODEMIC is a joint INRA–Inria team formalized in 2012 as a continuation of the former team MERE created by C. Lobry.
Microbial ecosystems, whether involved in natural or industrial environment, are at the heart of the biochemical conversion processes of organic matter. Understand and exploit their performance has become a major challenge for the design and supervision of future environmental bio-refineries, as for the conservation of the natural environment (soil, lakes, lagoons …)
The team’s goals are to share knowledge and expertise of the two Institutes to develop, study and simulate new mathematical models for better understanding and better control of bioprocesses based on micro-organisms.
The models considered are based on the theory of dynamical systems: differential equations, Markov processes… as well as the tools of Automatic control, observation, optimal control…
The team consists of applied mathematics researchers at INRA (Applied Mathematics and Computer Science Department), and INRIA but also a researcher at INRA Environmental Biotechnology Laboratory (LBE, Narbonne). The team is housed within the UMR MISTEA on campus SupAgro Montpellier.
Thematic keywords: interactions within microbial communities, performance of microbial ecosystems and biotechnological processes, water reuse, waste recycling and bioremediation of natural environments.
Methodological keywords: population dynamics, differential equations, Markov processes, hybrid models, change of scale, observers, optimal control.
