Matías R. Bender (TU Berlin) - Polynomial systems, sparsity, and applications

2 February 2022

Polynomial systems are ubiquitous in computational mathematics and have several applications in science and engineering. In this talk, I will present some linear-algebra-based strategies to compute with them. First, I will focus on solving, symbolically and numerically, structured systems such as sparse and multi-homogeneous. For that, I will merge classical tools, like Gröbner bases and resultants, with Toric geometry. Later, I will present some applications of these techniques in different domains, such as differential equations and topological data analysis.
