Description : This video presents a methods for occupancy grid computation using stereo-vision. The grid is initially computed on the u-disparity plane, taking into account the geometrical visibility of each cell (i.e. if the cell is occluded by an object in foreground). This approach allows both a precise probabilistic description of the scene, and a strong parallelization of the computation. On the grids, light areas correspond to low occupancy probability, while dark regions correspond to high occupancy probability.In a second stage, the grid is reprojected on the Cartesian plane, for use in subsequent applications. Thresholding the grid provides an estimation of the free space. On the image, such a decomposition is illustrated by blue color (free space) and red color (occupied space).
