Lower limb FES-assisted functions in spinal cord injured individuals
Transfer assistance is one of applications considered within CACAO research. One aim being to assist transfer in paraplegics and a second one to allow autonomous transfer in tertraplegics by means of electrical stimulation.
FES cycling is the second application considered in CACAO. The first objective is to prepare and train two pilots (one french one brazilian) and to develop two instrumented trikes to participate in Cybathlon competition in October. The pilot training is a research topic and the preparation protocol has been carefully designed to follow up and assess physical and psychological improvements. The design of a robust and adaptive controller is also a big challenge and is the object of a lot of work in the team.
