International Collaborations

FogCity – QoS-aware Resource Management for Smart Cities
The FogCity associate team is a collaboration between the Myriads Inria project-team (Rennes, France), the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur and the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur. It focuses on a smart city scenario in which data from static and mobile sensors is routed to appropriate fog data centers based on application QoS requirements. The main goal of the research is to select suitable nodes within the fog data centers to optimize the QoS of the applications in terms of latency.

DALHIS – Data Analysis on Large-scale Heterogeneous Infrastructures for Science
The DALHIS associate team is a collaboration between the Myriads Inria project-team (Rennes, France) and the Data Science and Technology (DST) department at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (Berkeley, USA). The objective of the collaboration is to create a software ecosystem to facilitate seamless data analysis across desktops, HPC and cloud environments. Specifically, our goal is to build a dynamic software stack that is user-friendly, scalable, energy-efficient and fault tolerant.

GreenTouch – Increase network energy efficiency by a factor of 1000
GreenTouch is an international consortium of leading Information and Communications Technology industry, academic and non-governmental research experts dedicated to fundamentally transforming communications and data networks, including the Internet, and significantly reducing the carbon footprint of ICT devices, platforms and networks.

European Projects

FogGuru – Training the Next Generation of European Fog Computing Experts
FogGuru contributes to the rapidly emerging domain of fog computing with technologies for managing application resources, middlewares for easing the development of innovative applications, and application blueprints to demonstrate how these technologies can provide tangible benefits to the European citizens. Myriad team member Guillaume Pierre coordinates the project.

NESUS – Network for Sustainable Ultrascale Computing
The goal of the NESUS COST Action it to establish an open European research network targeting sustainable solutions for ultra-scale computing aiming at cross fertilization among HPC, large-scale distributed systems, and big data management.

National Collaborations

Discovery – DIStributed and COoperative framework to manage Virtual EnviRonments autonomicallY
The DISCOVERY initiative aims at exploring a new way of operating Utility Computing (UC) resources by leveraging any facilities available through the Internet in order to deliver widely distributed platforms that can better match the geographical dispersal of users as well as the unending demand.

ELCI – Software environment for computation-intensive applications
The PIA ELCI project aims at developing a new software stack for controlling supercomputers including numerical solvers, pre-, post- and co-processing software, and programming and execution environments used in numerical simulations and HPC. These software development will be validated along with their capacity to offer a better scalability, resilience, security, modularity, abstraction and interactivity on application use-cases.

EPOC – Energy proportional and opportunistic computing systems
EPOC is a project of the Labex CominLabs which focuses on optimizing the energy consumption of mono-site data-centers connected to the regular electrical grid and to renewable energy sources. It aims at focusing on energy-aware task execution from the hardware to application’s components in the context of a mono-site data-center (all resources are in the same physical location) which is connected to the regular electrical Grid and to renewable energy sources, such as windmills or solar cells.

MIHMES – Multi-scale modeling, from animal Intra-Host to Metapopulation, of mechanisms of pathogen spread to Evaluate control Strategies
The MIHMES ANR project aims to produce scientific knowledge and methods for the management of endemic infectious animal diseases and veterinary public health risks. Its two major interlinked strategic objectives are to develop a new multi-level modeling framework to represent the complex interplay between numerous biological and managerial processes; and to develop decision tools to evaluate the epidemic-economic effectiveness of disease prevention and control strategies at the scales of the herd, the region and the supply chain.

Industrial Collaborations

DGA-MI – Security as a service in IaaS clouds
Our objective is to allow an IaaS cloud provider to offer terms related to security monitoring in its SLA (security as a service). A client organization should be able to specify its security monitoring requirements in a simple way (vulnerabilities to be monitored) and define in its contract with the cloud provider a tradeoff between the security monitoring efficiency and its cost (e.g. performance degradation, shared resource allocation). A cloud provider should then have a service that automatically configures the security monitoring system components under its control and automatically adapts them to the reconfigurations of the virtual infrastructure.

Thales Research & Technology – Agile, distributed Cyber-Physical Systems
This project focuses on the development of distributed Cyber-Physical Systems, such as those developed by Thales to monitor and react to changing physical environments. These systems need to be highly adaptable in order to cope with the dynamism and diversity of their operating environments. Notably, they require distributed, parallel architectures that support dynamic sets of applications, not known in advance, while providing strong QoS guarantees. The goal of the project is to explore adaptive resource management mechanisms for such systems that can adapt to changes in the requirements and in the availability of resources.
