Inertial Sea Wave Energy Converter (ISWEC)
This project is done in collaboration with W4E (Waves for Energy) and Optimad engineering. W4E have developed a real prototype that is tested in the Mediterranean sea. This mechanical system is devoted to extract the energy of the sea waves thanks to a gyroscope. We performed numerical simulation of this system on a cartesian mesh with approximately one million of degrees of freedom. The multiphase flow is computed thanks to the Continuous Surface Force (CSF) method. The body motion is computed form from hydrodynamic efforts exerted by the fluid onto the body and by the response given by the gyroscope. The figure below presents preliminary results we have obtained.
