Full Waveform Inversion under the PiXiL project – synthetic study 1

We did benchmark Full Waveform Inversion (FWI) tests on a synthetic model featuring 2 holes (tunnels):

Geophysical model from RTS

Near-surface geophysical model from RTS


Synthetic data generated by Hou10ni in the time domain and FWI performed by Hawen in the frequency domain.

Wave propagation simulation with Hou10ni:

  • Elastodynamic and 2D geophysical model
  • About 200k triangle elements in the unstructured mesh

Full Waveform Inversion with Hawen:

  • Inversion considering full waveform
  • Surface waves lead the energy of seismic records
  • Several hundreds of frequencies involved in FWI
