Embedded vision system for the detection and classification of obstacles”

A multitude of electronics systems are now available in order to provide the greatest safety as possible. Advanced Driver Assistance System can now be preventively activated in order to limit the injury damages in case of emergency, such as during a pre-crash situation. For this kind of assistance, detection and classification of obstacles is a crucial step.

The goal of this internship is to elaborate a new real time algorithm for detection and classification of obstacles based on a monovision camera. The candidate will build this algorithm based on existing work on the subject.

In a first time, the candidate will provide a state of the art on the subject. Then, according to existing work [1], he will develop his own algorithm. As a final step, his algorithm will be embedded on a real platform and could be tested for platooning applications.

Requirements:

Requirements include a completed MSc degree in electrical and computer engineering or equivalent, solid background in mathematics, statistics and image processing, as well as a good background in scientific software development and programming (C++, Matlab). Knowledge of French is an asset, but not mandatory and teamwork skills are required.

Departure date: positions will start in February-June 2013.
