Staying in Nancy
Although Inria is located in the University Campus of the Science Faculties (Campus Faculté de Sciences) on the outskirts of Nancy, we strongly advise you to find accommodation in the city center. By staying in the city center, you can easily reach the University Campus of the Science Faculties by using buses or trams while enjoying the many landmarks such as the Place Stanislas, the Old Town, and the Parc de Pépinière, which make Nancy so special. The city center is rich in hotels (IBIS, Mercure, Hotel des Prélats, Novotel, …) and, for longer stays, apart-hotels (Adagio, Ibis, etc) all close to the tram. Nancy is culturally rich and dynamic, so don’t hesitate to explore the city! The following sources may help you to see what Nancy has to offer:

Residences for students
There are many residences for students, on the campus and in the city. Most of them are located in the city center and well-connected to the bus network unless specified otherwise. Here is a non-exhaustive list that might help you:
Important tips!
It is strongly advised for students coming from abroad to stay at one of those residences first since many services such as internet are included in the charges. Having internet access is fundamental when you arrive here as many of the administrative procedures you will need to do (buy a phone card at Free or Orange, get insurance, open a bank account, etc.) are mostly done online. In the alternative, a good 4G phone card is needed. Once you are in Nancy, you can find another accommodation, but it requires being on-site to visit and get help from a local for the paperwork required for renting an apartment or room. The team members will be happy to help you in the process, so don’t hesitate to ask for help!
When looking for accommodation, beware of advertisements saying “just 5 minutes from Nancy” as they usually refer to the time it takes by car. It is recommended to find a place that is well-connected to the bus and tramway network, especially the T1 and T3, while considering that the nightlife is in the city center of Nancy, usually within a 1 km radius from Place Stanislas. You can contact us by email to help you judge if a place is easy to reach from the University campus or not, if it’s convenient for public transportation etc.
Moving around in the city
To travel around the city and to the lab, the easiest is to use the bus and tramway network, especially the T1 and T3 buses. All information regarding this network called STAN can be found on its website and app. You can choose from multiple plans that are available depending on your use and be reimbursed by 50% thanks to your contract. Check with our assistant if this reimbursement applies to your contract.
Many people also like to come by bike. In case you do not have one, you can buy a second-hand bike easily, use the City bikes from the Town of Nancy, or even rent a City Bike at the Nancy Town service named Maison du Velo [House of Bikes].
