From Synthetic Gene Networks To Artificial Tissues

The long-term objective of the Syne2Arti project is to develop methods to support the rational design of artificial tissues. Our approach combines computational biology and synthetic biology approaches. Cells are engineered such that the expected behavior of the tissue emerges from cell interactions.

The development of such tissues is particularly challenging because of their multiscale aspect: there is a subtle interplay between the intracellular functioning of the cell and the cell-cell interactions.

As a first application, we focus on a tissue homeostasis system. Our goal is to design in silico and construct in vivo a tissue that autonomously maintins its cell density at a desired level.
