« Saving Civilization is not a spectator sport » Lester Brown

I am an INRIA researcher.

Since its creation in 2010, I lead the STEEP research team of the INRIA Grenoble – Rhône-Alpes research center (also attached to the LJK)

My research interests and activities are related to the themes of the STEEP team

More generally, I am interested in the various questions and issues related to the ecological transition – in particular the identification of lock-ins and levers for action – more specifically at the local scale, as well as in questions of governance and democracy.

Conference on the risk of societal collapse given in the cycle of conferences “Understanding and Acting”

I am a Co-founder and member of the Steering Committee of Anthropocene FACTS:

Anthropocene FACTS is an international foundation (constitution in process in 2021) whose objective is 1) to provide a state of the art of scientific knowledge on the challenges of the Anthropocene and the future evolution of societies, and 2) to provide free access to a set of resources and educational content dealing with these issues and allowing students and citizens to have a systemic and critical vision.

I am a member of the Steering Committee of the Oasis’2022 conference.

Oasis’2022 is the first French-speaking conference specialized in Global Systemic Risks, the trajectories of the Anthropocene and the levers of action…

At the creation of the STEEP team, I also worked several years on models coupling transport and land use.

Previously, I applied my skills to computer vision and my research activities included 3D scene reconstruction from single or multiview images or video sequences, illumination, reflectance modeling and image formation, ambiguity characterization, image and surface segmentation…

Between 2006 and 2010, I worked in the Perception group (INRIA Rhône-Alpes). I was a postdoctoral researcher at the UCLA Computer Science Department (2005). I obtained my PhD (2004) under the supervision of Olivier Faugeras in the Odyssee laboratory of INRIA in Sophia Antipolis.

Awards : Accessit of the SPECIF Prize in 2005 (Best French thesis in computer science).

Academic background : Pure and applied mathematics
