Context
SCALABLE is an ADEME-funded research project involving the LESSEM laboratory (INRAE Grenoble), the STEEP team at Inria Grenoble, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Énergie Environnement, the TerriFlux company and the Parc Naturel Régional de Chartreuse for all members of the “alpine region” inter-territorial food project. SCALABLE focuses on biomass of agricultural origin (BOA), at the various stages of the processing chain (commodity chain) from production to consumption, at different territorial scales (national, regional, local). It aims to improve knowledge of the material and organizational vulnerabilities of territories in relation to these sectors: to what extent are the needs of the population being met in a sustainable way, and without transferring vulnerabilities to other territories? This work will combine analytical approaches (using descriptive models) and deliberative approaches (evaluation by local stakeholders). Ultimately, it will help to shed light on the relevant scales for relocating the various links in the supply chain.
Objectives of the internship
The aim of the internship is to contribute to the realization of Material Flow Analyses (MFA) of agricultural sectors at the level of France and French regions (see pre-existing work on https://www.flux-biomasse.fr/alimentation_animale). It will be based on the STEEP team’s tools for quantifying and representing the material balance of a given commodity chain (raw material production, processing, consumption, transport, etc.) using existing data sources that are incomplete and inconsistent with each other.
The work will involve getting to grips with the method and tools, understanding and modeling the workings of certain production sectors that have not yet been studied at national level, and/or regionalizing existing national studies. This will involve researching and formatting data relating to these sectors (on the Internet and by contacting certain experts). The project will be supervised by the STEEP team, in close collaboration with the TerriFlux company (currently being incubated at the Inria incubator).

- And/or prior knowledge of agricultural sectors and environmental issues related to agriculture,
