Second 6TiSCH plugtests great success!

Inria-EVA hosted the ETSI 6TiSCH 2 plugtests on 2-4 February 2016! The event was attended by 13 companies/organizations*, and consisted of test sessions where vendors assessed the level of interoperability of their implementations of 6TiSCH standards. The event was supported by Inria, OpenMote and OpenWSN, and by the European Commission.

The 6TiSCH Plugtests event offered test sessions where vendors assessed the level of interoperability of their implementations and verified the correct interpretation of IEEE and IETF base specifications. This Plugtests event conducted a testing campaign based on the test cases developed by ETSI in collaboration with the IETF 6TiSCH working group, focused on the conformance and interoperability of the IETF 6TiSCH specifications. The 6TiSCH Test Description specification will be published as an ETSI ISG IP6 Group Specification which will ease its maintenance and extension for future 6TiSCH Plugtests.

The 6TiSCH technology is a key enabler of the future Internet of Things where smart objects (i.e., sensors) are IP enabled and form an integral part of the Internet. This Plugtests event assessed the interoperability of different 6TiSCH implementations based on the draft-wang-6tisch-6top-sublayer (6top Protocol) and the draft-ietf-6lo-paging-dispatch / draft-ietf-6lo-routing-dispatch (6LoRH) specifications. The 6TiSCH 6top Protocol enables schedule negotiation between pairs of neighbor nodes. This enables devices in a network to build a schedule dynamically according to different policy requirements. The 6LoRH specification brings header compression (IPHC) to IPv6 routing and IP extension headers. The specification enables the compression of RPI and RH3 headers from RPL or other routing protocols, and optimizes the space used by IP-in-IP encapsulation. Both protocols fill a gap in the 6TiSCH architecture related to standardization of the schedule management and efficient IPv6 integration through improved Header Compression.
