On Thursday, 17th October 2024, Inria had an insightful talk by André Carneiro, who visited as part of the DecoHPC Associate Team. André is a technologist at the National Laboratory for Scientific Computing (LNCC), where he has been leading the HPC Support team and overseeing IT services and computational infrastructure since 2012. He also contributes to training system administrators at the Brazilian National Research and Educational Network (RNP).
The talk, titled “Uncovering I/O Usage in HPC Platforms”, shed light in optimizing the performance of supercomputers with focus on I/O. André introduced a methodology and a visualization tool to assess the efficiency of data storage systems, using the Santos Dumont supercomputer as a case study. His research highlighted how identifying storage bottlenecks and inefficiencies can lead to significant performance improvements, particularly for scientific applications in various research fields.
