Category: General Carles Checa (ATHENA, Greece) - A Greedy Approach to the Canny-Emiris Formula

26 January 2022

The Canny-Emiris formula gives the sparse resultant as a ratio of two determinants. The goal of the talk is to explain how the greedy approach of Canny and Pedersen can be applied after the proof of the formula, in order to find smaller matrices. This reduction is measured for the case when the Newton polytopes are n-zonotopes or correspond to multi-homogeneous systems. The resulting formulas will be compared to other existing resultant formulas in the literature.
