Matteo Azzini

Matteo Azzini

PhD student

Short bio

Matteo Azzini graduated with the double degree program European Master on Advanced Robotics (EMARO+) from Ecole Centrale de Nantes, France, and Università degli studi di Genova, Italy, in 2022 and he is ranked 3rd among the IMARO and EMARO+ students.

During the last six months of his Master Degree, Matteo did an internship on the topic UAV/AGV collaboration for a continuous service with the ACENTAURI team at INRIA. The objective of the master of the master thesis was threefold. First and most relevant, the exploitation of data fusion techniques, such as the Extended Kalman Filter, to involve GPS, camera, UWB, IMU sensors and an external disturbances observer to compute relative state estimation of the UAV with respect to the AGV. Then, The investigation of the Ultrawide Band sensor as precise localization sensor in order to compute also orientation of the drone. Finally, develop a controller for a gimbal mechanism able to compensate aggressive maneuvering of the UAV in order to let the camera keep the AGV in the target and perform relative state estimation.

He started his Ph.D. position on Lidar-Vision fusion for robust robot localization and mapping in October 2022 with the ACENTAURI team at INRIA.

Research Interests

His research interest are mainly oriented in autonomous robotics (modeling, perception, decision and control of AGVs and UAVs) as stated both from his choice of the Master thesis internship and the PhD subject, with a particular attention to the sensor fusion.
