Jon Aztiria Oiartzabal

Engineer

Short bio

Jon Aztiria is a robotic engineer with a keen interest in robots programming and computer vision. He obtained his Bachelor Degree in Energy Engineering in 2021 from Mondragon Unbertsitatea of Spain. In his Bachelor Thesis he carried out the analysis, design and implementation of a wide-bandgap semiconductor-based power converter for wind energy both in simulation and at the university laboratory. Jon specialized his career in robotics as it is his passion since he was young. This interest is shown in the First Lego League competitions at school and the robotics teacher work (LEGO Mindstorms and Makeblock) in technological campuses for children. He accomplished his Master Degree in Robotics and Control Systems specializing in Autonomous Systems in 2023 from the same university of Spain. A sophisticated computer vision system was built and tested as part of his Master Thesis at Lortek S.Coop (Ordicia, Spain), which combined the Photometric Stereo technique with a Deep Learning model for subtle defects detection in shiny metal parts. From April 2023 to February 2024, he worked for the research centre Vicomtech (San Sebastian, Spain) as an investigation assistant working in cutting-edge projects in Artificial Intelligence and Computer Vision such as abandoned object detection and optical character recognition. Jon has joint INRIA in March 2024 as a robotic integration engineer for the European Agrifood-TEF project inside the ACENTAURI research team.

Research Interests

His current research interests are trajectory definition, localization and control for the autonomous navigation of mobile robots.
